L'ELISIR D'AMORESun, April 5 @ 11 am  One of Donizetti’s most popular creations, this comic opera enjoys a very entertaining libretto, written by Felice Romani. Shy peasant Nemorino (Roberto Alagna)has the hots for beautiful Adina (Angela Gheorghiu). Unfortunately for him, however, Adina lives in a fantasy world of her own and doesn’t give him the time of day. Desperate to win her love, he falls for the quackery of a medicine man who sells him the magic potions of the title . The spells go badly wrong, but the two lovers end up together never the less. The famous tenor aria “Una furtive lagrima” is sung by Nemorino. This superb production of the Opera de Lyon was updated to rural Italy in the 1930s. The performers are clearly having a wonderful time and so will the audience. (1996, 125 minutes) Please note: this screening will be shown on DVD in the main theater.
