VERBOBALASat, May 17 @ midnite $10 all seats On Saturday, May 17th, experimental theater group Verbobala Spoken Video is set to arrive to the Coolidge for a debut that will include digital illegal immigration and DJ-esque sampling of spoken speech. Verbobala, based out of Cuernavaca, Mexico and Tucson, Arizona performs a unique blend of bilingual spoken word poetry and live, large-scale video projections. The group is comprised of poet and performer Logan Phillips, Chicano video artist Adam Cooper-Terán, and Mexican VJ Moisés Regla. Although they perform frequently in central Mexico––including a stop at Poesía.en.Voz.Alta, the country's largest contemporary poetry festival––this spring they have embarked on their first US tour. Sharing the stage on this night will be the acclaimed writer and performer James Caroline with a featured cast of musicians and singers. Caroline was voted Best Local Author in the 2006 Boston Phoenix poll and is a multiple winner of CPA's for Best Erotic Male Performance Poet and Best Slam Poet Male. James has performed his work across the U.S. as well as London, England and Ankara, Turkey. |
