It wouldn't be an 80s kids' fantasy film if it didn't give you both hope and nightmares all at the same time. Like Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal, The NeverEnding Story is a dark children's odyssey of adolescence and killer talking wolves.

After escaping the dumpster he was tossed into by a bunch of bullies, Bastian takes shelter in a bookstore and discovers a tome that transports him on his magical journey. What could have simply been an uplifting adventure of good destroying evil, The NeverEnding Story makes sure to include your favorite horse drowning in the Swamps of Sadness, an amorpheous threat known only as The Nothing, the unsettling animatronic faces of an enormous turtle and a giant flying luckdragon, and a pair of bare-chested, laser-eyed statues, making this one of the creepiest and awesomest movies from your childhood.
