After the film, join us at Osaka for the Rewind! after party with beer, cider, and sushi!

Geena Davis and Tom Hanks star in Penny Marshall's major-league comedy. Hanks stars as Jimmy Dugan, a washed-up ballplayer whose big league days are over. Hired to coach in the All-American Girls Baseball League of 1943, while the male pros are at war, Dugan finds himself drawn back into the game by the heart and heroics of his all-girl team. Jon Lovitz adds a scene-stealing cameo as the sarcastic scout who recruits Dottie Hinson (Davis), the baseball dolly with a Babe Ruth swing. Teammates Madonna, Lori Petty and Rosie O'Donnell round out the roster, taking the team to the World Series. Based on the true story of the pioneering women who blazed the trail, on the fields and off, for generations of athletes.

A Tribute to Jay Carr

On behalf of the Coolidge Corner Theatre and the Boston Society of Film Critics, we dedicate this screening as a tribute to renowned film critic Jay Carr (1936-2014).

Jay wrote reviews for The New York Post and The Detroit News before joining The Boston Globe in 1983, where he was chief film critic until 2002. His legendary "Vintage Stock" column appeared every Friday in the Globe, just one example of his ardent advocacy of independent film and local theaters committed to preserving the history of cinema. We at the Coolidge are particularly grateful for his support, vital contribution, and legacy.

Films featuring women both behind and in front of the camera.
