Seminar: The Silence of the Lambs

3hrs
Body

Jonathan Demme’s The Silence of the Lambs swept the 64th Academy Awards, deservedly.

One of only three movies in Hollywood history to win all five major Academy awards, The Silence of the Lambs in the present sits within a five-movie context. Based on the work of thriller novelist Thomas Harris, the unforgettable Hannibal Lecter’s personal chronology was captured in childhood in Hannibal Rising; he later served as a kind of consultant in Red Dragon and its earlier equivalent, Manhunter; he took center stage in Silence as another kind of consultant on the “Buffalo Bill” serial killer case; and had his further adventures related in Hannibal. Join professor Thomas G. Gutheil, MD for a one-night seminar on the disturbing psychology of the film rendered with outstanding cinematic style by director Jonathan Demme.
