Member News![]() July Dear Members, So here's a Six Degrees of Separation puzzler to stimulate the brain cells that have grown sleepy in these lazy summer days: July 21 is the 50th anniversary of the American premiere, in Dayton, Ohio, of a movie destined to become an influential classic. The film dramatized the story of the historic 1925 Scopes "Monkey Trial" where a Tennessee teacher was prosecuted for teaching Darwin's Theory of Evolution. The filmmakers used the story as a parable to discuss the evils of McCarthyism. The film was nominated for four Oscars. And our connection to this illustrious movie, which of course, was shown here later that year? The mayor of the town in the film was played by Concord native Philip Coolidge. The first five members who e-mail the correct title of the film to me (Elizabeth [at] coolidge [dot] org) will receive a pair of Coolidge passes. And now for other exciting opportunities for you clever Coolidge supporters: Due to unforseen circumstances we have had to cancel the advanced screening of The Kids Are All Right (opening at the theatre for a general run July 16); instead we are pleased to offer a special screening of PHYLLIS AND HAROLD on Sunday, July 25 @ 3pm. This screening will include an introduction and Q&A with director Cindy Kleine and producer André Gregory (My Dinner With André) in person! Advance FREE member tickets have reached capacity. Members can still guarantee a seat by purchasing standard $6.75 member price tickets. We will have a limited number of FREE seats available for pick up at the box office the day of the show as rush seats. Also coming soon: a special advance screening of KISSES on August 4th at 7pm. There will be a limited number of tickets available only to members for pick-up exclusively at the box office on a first-come first-served basis beginning Monday July 19th. The ticket will guarantee a seat up to 15 minutes prior to the show. After that time empty seats will be given out to the stand-by line. Wondering what else to get your loved ones for summer birthdays, anniversaries, etcetera besides a gift membership to the Coolidge (which of course is ALWAYS the right choice)? You'll find plenty of unique gift choices for just about everyone at this long time Brookline retailer of distinction,WILD GOOSE CHASE. Now relocated even closer to the theater, they still offer our members 10% off your purchases. When you're not in the protective darkness of the Coolidge theaters, don't forget to wear sunscreen. See you at the movies! Elizabeth Taylor-Mead Elizabeth [at] coolidge [dot] org |
