A Walk on the Moon
Wednesday, February 29
1hr 47mins // directed by:Tony Goldwyn // featuring:Diane Lane, Viggo Mortensen, Liev Schriber, Anna Paquin
We continue our retrospective of the films of Viggo Mortensen with one of his sexiest performances: A Walk on the Moon.
Diane Lane (Unfaithful) stars as Pearl Kantrowitz, a housewife who is growing dissatisfied with her life. Married to working stiff Marty (Liev Schreiber) and with two children - a rebellious budding hippie teenage daughter Alison (Anna Paquin) and little cowboy Daniel - she is looking for a little freedom and breathing room. On their annual trip to a Catskill Jewish camp during the summer of 1969, it's not just Alison who finds freedom and new love.
Viggo Mortensen is Walker Jerome, "the blouse man," a sexy younger man who sells women's apparel to the camp's visiting families; a free spirit and smooth talker who quickly catches Pearl's eye... and heart. Through the course of the summer, Walker and Pearl enter into a passionate affair in this erotic and vibrant film.
With a soundtrack that features great music, from Jimi Hendrix to The Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane to Joni Mitchell; and an excellent screenplay that poignantly blends comedy, drama, eroticism, and the clash of eras that is among the best of Woodstock-era films.
