"My Favorite Things", "Do-Re-Mi", "So Long, Farewell", and, of course, "The Sound of Music". With these songs Rodgers and Hammerstein created an instant classic Broadway musical in The Sound of Music. Transporting the painted landscapes of the stage to the sweeping vistas of Salzburg, Austria, Robert Wise (West Side Story, Star Trek: The Motion Picture) and his crew bring to life one of the most joyous musicals of all time.

Julie Andrews plays Maria, a postulant in Nonnberg Abbey who isn't quite suited to being a nun. Her fate changes when widowed Austrian Navy Captain Georg von  Trapp (Christopher Plummer) requests a governess to be sent to care for his seven mischievous children. A naval officer before a father, von Trapp has his house running more like a ship than a home: whistle blows announcing meetings, his children dressed in sailor-suits, ordering everyone around. It initially seems that Maria has given up one set of strict rules for another, but the more times she spends with the von Trapp children - and they with her - the more she is able to bring them together as a fun, fancy-free family. At first to the chagrin of Captain von Trapp, but soon he, too, begins to see the value of the sound of music.
