If Not Us, Who (Wer wenn nicht wir)
Sunday, February 19
2hr 04mins // directed by:Andreas Veiel
Bernward Vesper is the son of a Nazi writer and rebellious because of it. During the night, he slams angry words into this typewriter, throwing them in the face of the 1960s German establishment. When he meets Gudrun Ensslin, it's the beginning of an extreme affair: unconditional, excessive, beyond all thresholds of pain. Together they set off to conquer the world.
Less than 10 years later, however, Bernward is caught up in the madness of drugs and Gudrun has wholeheartedly thrown herself into the violent German underworld. They have gone too far to turn back and have lost sight of almost everything else.
Director Andres Veiel studied psychology in Berlin before taking classes in directing and dramaturgy at the Artist House Bethanien. Since then he was been actively involved in both film and theater.
In German with English subtitles.
