1hr 38mins // directed by:Joel Coen // featuring:Frances McDormand, William H. Macy, Steve Buscemi
In honor of award season, the Coolidge is pleased to present one of our favorite Oscar winners; the Coen Brothers' 1996 Minesotan thriller Fargo. Nominated for seven Academy Awards, winner for Best Actress (Francis McDormand) and Best Original Screenplay (the Coens), this stark white satire quickly became a cult favorite.
Car salesman Jerry Lundegaard (William H, Macy) has been scamming General Motors out of a lot of money. On the verge of being caught, Jerry concocts a scheme to have his wife kidnapped. The ransom will be paid by his rich and overbearing father-in-law. The goons he hires come highly recommended by a Native American ex-con who works in his dealership's service department. What could go wrong?
When the inevitable murders begin, it's up to super-pregnant police chief Marge Gunderson (McDormand) to stitch the pieces together.
