Eastern Promises with post-screening Q&A
Monday, March 5
1hr 40mins // directed by:David Cronenberg // featuring:Viggo Mortensen, Naomi Watts, Armin Mueller-Stahl, Vincent Cassel
As the imposing and heavily tattooed gangster Nikolai, Viggo Mortensen once again masterfully portrays a duplicitous, yet honorable, character for director David Cronenberg.
When midwife Anna (Naomi Watts) finds the diary of a recently deceased young mother and attempts to have it translated from Russian, she is led down a path that places her firmly in the grasp of the London underworld. The relationship she forges with mob associate Nikolai may be the only thing that can save her. But despite literally wearing his life story on his skin, Nikolai is a difficult man to read. Anna should have listened to his warning, "Stay away from people like me".
Q&A after the film with Viggo Mortensen.
Tickets: $20 general admission; $17 students, seniors, and Coolidge members.
