Bringing Up Baby
Monday, May 21
1hr 42mins // directed by:Howard Hawks // featuring:Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn
Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant ignite the screen with laughs and love in Howard Hawks' classic screwball comedy. Presented from a newly restored print!
Mild-mannered paleontologist David Huxley (Cary Grant) has an albatross the size of a Brontosaurus bone hanging around his neck. He has literally been missing a single dinosaur bone (the mythical "intercostal clavicle") which has been keeping him from finishing the complete skeleton for the Natural History museum. To add to matters the day before he is to wed finacée Alice Swallow, he meets Susan Vance (Katharine Hepburn) who insists that he help her take care of a tamed leopard named "Baby".
Vance soon falls for David and she does everything in her powers to keep him at her house to prevent him from marrying Alice. Her dog, George, even gets in on the plot by burying the very bone that David has been searching for. Events keep conspiring against David throughout the evening eventually landing him in jail!
Bringing Up Baby is one of the hallmarks of the classic Hollywood screwball comedies and with Hepburn and Grant turning in perfectly timed performances, the laughs never stop.
