Argo
Closes Thursday, December 20
2hr 00mins // directed by:Ben Affleck // featuring:Bryan Cranston, Ben Affleck, John Goodman, Philip Baker Hall, Clea DuVall, Alan Arkin
At the height of the Iranian revolution in 1979, the American Embassy was taken hostage. Six U.S. foreign service members were able to escape capture and hide out at the home of the Canadian Ambassador.
Without an easy extraction in sight, the CIA is open to any measure to ensure the safe return of these six Americans. Any measure, in this case, meant a wild idea: CIA operatives would pose as a Hollywood film crew shooting a science fiction film called Argo, in Iran. Once in country they would meet up with the Canadian Ambassador, give the six Americans fake identities as members of the film crew, and fly home undetected.
The best laid plans of mice and men, however...
Starring and directed by Ben Affleck (The Town, Chasing Amy) with an all-star cast including John Goodman (The Big Lebowski, The Artist) as a Hollywood executive, Bryan Cranston (Drive, Breaking Bad) as a CIA "exfiltration" specialist, and based on recently declassified documents, this is a taught thriller that has been receiving critical accolades the world over.

"Argo is never less than wildly entertaining, but a major part of its power is that it so ominously captures the kickoff to the world we're in now." - Owen Gleiberman
